Ras Sudr Ras Sudr is a small settlement on the west coast of the Sinai in between Cairo and Sharm El Sheik (that should narrow it down a bit)! Our base here is the new Fun Kite Centre based at the Paradise hotel, which is run by the enigmatic Sylvain and Stephanie. In our view this is the best kiting spot in the Sinai.
Why? Firstly the relentless wind blows cross-shore, or ever so slightly cross-on, which means that there is plenty of space for everybody. The sandy standing area is much bigger than you could ever imagine, about one and a half square miles! Even at low tide, there is plenty of water to sail. At high tide you can still stand. The warm turquoise water inspires you to try anything and everything. There are no sea urchins. And the whole location lends itself to teaching, so we can be on you whenever necessary.
The club is well managed, with plenty of help at hand to launch and land (even if you come in downwind). Sylvain and Stephanie have been living in Egypt for many years, so they understand the culture and speak the language, which therefore qualifies them as perfect guides. The atmosphere is friendly and fun. And they stay open until the last kite comes in, or the final beer has been polished off. Pure Bliss.
The Paradise hotel is warm and welcoming, the staff will do everything in their powers to make your stay pleasant, and the brilliant catering manager “Mr Pleasure”, is a comic sketch waiting to be written.
We cannot wait to go back.
You can fly either to Sharm El Sheik with Excel, or to Cairo with Egypt Air or BA. The boys at Waveriders have all the figures. |
